A walk through a deserted Matera, imbued with a strange atmosphere, like a ghost town. This is the south eastern part of the village, the area least traveled by tourists and still undergoing renovation. I do not know exactly where Pasolini shot the scenes of his film Il Vangelo secondo Matteo, but I certainly breathe a magic and sacred atmosphere.The gravine and its timeless landscape are always there, the nature strong and powerful. The human presence is to find in the objects scattered along the road: work tools, tractors, bulldozers, hanging clothes. As if I landed coming from a faraway galaxy, I wander into a ruined city. The bottle of beer among the rubble or the tractor are traces of a past civilization, pre-existing and suddenly disappeared. The silence of the roadworks is the soundtrack to this film of mine.
